How to play Speed Match
Speed Match is a free visual reaction game you play right in your mobile browser. Each round is a 30-second blitz testing your cognitive processing speed and accuracy. Two symbols appear side by side, and you decide whether they are identical as fast as you can.
If you know the Speed Match exercise from brain-training apps such as Lumosity, the idea is close: judge same or different under time pressure. That version compares each card with the one before it. This one shows both symbols at once, so the round tests how fast you compare shapes rather than how well you hold one in memory. It is free, runs in the browser, and has no connection to Lumosity.
Controls and Scoring
Tap Same (or press Left Arrow / A) if both symbols match. Tap Different (or press Right Arrow / D) if they differ. Each correct comparison earns one point and records your reaction time in milliseconds. Consecutive correct answers build your streak.
What does visual reaction time measure?
Each answer is timed from the moment the symbols appear until your tap or key press registers. The result screen shows your matches, your accuracy and your average speed in milliseconds, so you can see whether a higher score came from faster answers or fewer mistakes. Phone taps and keyboard presses do not register at the same speed, so compare your best against runs on the same device.
Three tips to beat your high score
- Fixate between the symbols: Do not look at one symbol then shift your eyes to the other. Soften your gaze at the center point to take in both shapes at once.
- Prioritize accuracy over reckless tapping: A wrong answer resets your streak and wastes precious recovery time. Consistent pacing beats erratic guessing.
- Keep your thumbs close: On a phone, hover both thumbs right over the Same and Different buttons so you can register decisions with zero thumb travel.
