How to play Sea Battle

Sea Battle is a guessing game. Each side hides five ships on a 10 by 10 grid. You take turns picking a square on the other side's grid. They tell you "miss" or "hit". When you hit every square of a ship, it is "sunk". Sink all five enemy ships first and you win.

Placing your ships

Tap a ship in the tray, then tap the grid. Or drag the ship onto the grid. To move a ship, drag it again. Press Rotate to turn it. Press Random to place all five for you. Press Clear to start over. Ships can sit next to each other, but they cannot overlap. When all five are down, press the ready button.

Taking a shot

Tap a square on the Enemy waters grid to aim. A gold target shows where you will fire. Tap the same square again, or press Fire. A splash means a miss. Fire means a hit.

On a small phone you see one grid at a time. The other grid sits in a small map in the corner. Tap the small map, or the two tabs, to swap them. While the computer shoots, the big grid shows your own fleet so you can watch your ships take hits.

Tips to win

Computer levels and extra modes

Easy picks squares at random. It needs about 95 shots to find your whole fleet. Normal shoots on a checkerboard, then follows a ship once it hits. It needs about 53 shots. Hard works out which squares could still hold a ship and fires at the best one. It needs about 45 shots. The computer never peeks at your ships.

Salvo is an extra rule. You fire one shot for every ship you still have afloat. You start with five shots a turn, and you lose shots as your ships sink. Pass and play is for two people on one phone. A hand-over screen hides each grid between turns.

Play coins

You earn play coins when a battle ends. Beating the computer pays more, and Normal and Hard pay more than Easy. You also get a bonus if you win without losing a ship. Pass and play pays a small fixed amount for finishing. There is a daily limit, shown at the end. Coins are free play money. They have no cash value. See how this site treats play money.
